CHAPTER TEN

The artificially created storm assaulted Tortugas Locas with high winds and sideways rain. The hotel staff had worked fast to board up the place as best as they could. There was usually more warning about tropical storms, but in this case, there had been almost none.

The torrential winds hadn’t been enough to quiet the mobsters, who now seemed more on edge like the storm was fueling them. The brewing hurricane seemed to be heightening everyone’s emotions. The ghost of Baron Fabien Coulter was such a force that even Faraday couldn’t explain away his presence. The angry ghost vibrated the walls and howled through the halls, but his voice was often drowned out by the storm like the two were competing for attention.

Faraday knew this meant things were coming to a head. It was time to pit their enemies against each other as he and Lunis had planned. His part wasn’t easy and would take a lot of precision, but science was his specialty.

The one aspect of the plan Faraday didn’t like was stealing. However, it was crucial for things to go right. When Jack Ward wasn’t looking, the little squirrel had taken the keys to the motorboat out in the lagoon from his pocket. When the lobby was empty save for Emmanuel, the new waiter, and Laura doing her homework, Faraday dropped the keys on the counter in the lobby just before Donte and his goons stormed into the room.

Faraday jumped out of sight, having set the stage. He was sure that three mobsters looking for transportation to what seemed like the perfect heist would take the bait. The next part of taking out those criminals was up to Lunis.

Faraday’s other tasks included stopping the mad scientist, her hurricane, and the ghost from destroying Hotel Laguna Maldita. He scurried to the boiler room as thunder rocked the floor, hoping he hadn’t waited too long to stop the storm or contain the ghost. This part of the plan relied on timing.
